Holiday Mail Service

Most Post Offices will close at 12 noon on Friday, July 3, 2009.

On Friday, July 3, regular mail delivery services will be available. However, most Post Offices will close at 12 noon, and most collection times will be advanced to noon. Customers who may need retail or collection services after 12:00 noon on July 3 should contact their local Postmaster for information on Post Office locations that will maintain normal retail and lobby collection hours.

On Saturday, July 4, Post Offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day.

There will be no regular mail delivery on July 4. Only Sunday/Holiday Premium Express Mail will be delivered. Regular mail delivery, retail services and collections will resume on Monday, July 6.

Autism Resource Center Online at Rush

The Autism Resource Center at Rush University Medical Center has developed an online resource guide to help families find referrals in the following counties: Lake, McHenry, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall, Will, Grundy and Kankakee. The Web site is updated daily. There is information regarding fees, insurance, and wait lists. If you have any questions about referrals or navigating the Web site or you can call the Program Director at (312) 563-2272. Reminder: Glenview Farmers Market Opens Saturday, June 27

Saturday, June 27, is the first day of the Glenview Farmers Market at Wagner Farm, 1510 Wagner Road in Glenview.
Hours are 8 a.m.-Noon, Saturdays through October 10.

Parking is available in the Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church across the street from the farm.

The Glenview Free Concert Series starts on Sunday, June 28, 5:30-7:30 PM, featuring the Glenview Concert Band. Location is the Gallery Park Amphiteater on Lake Glenview behind Attea Middle School in the Glen.

Mega Bus offers low-cost, daily, express, non-stop bus service between major cities in the Midwest and the Northeast.

All buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi. MegaBus's Web site lists information and maps for each of their pick-up and drop-off locations. Bus stops are identified by a sign showing the megadriver logo. Mega Bus has been operating in the U.S. since 2006.

Recycling Event

Northfield Township hosts a free recycling event from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM this Saturday, June 20, at the Northfield Township Road District Garage, 1928 Lehigh Avenue in Glenview.

Residents may drop off the following items at the township facility: computer hardware, household paint (oil and latex), engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, cell phones/pagers, metal, batteries (all types), tires, bikes and toys (usable condition), durable medical equipment (canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, standers, therapeutic equipment), and ink and toner cartridges.

Glenview Summer Festival

GLENVIEW SUMMER FESTIVAL (formerly Street Sale) will be held on Saturday, June 27, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, on Glenview Road west of Waukegan Road to just east of the Metra tracks. The Summer Festival gives Glenview merchants a chance to showcase their wares. Local restaurants sell their mouth-watering creations, artists and crafters show off their talents with hand-made jewelry, pottery and more. Glenview service agencies and clubs will be represented. Come for the food and live entertainment! Fun for the whole family!

Flag Day

Honor the flag this weekend. Sunday, June 14 is Flag Day and the first day of National Flag Week. On June 14, 1777, John Adams introduced the following resolution before the Continental Congress, "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation."

Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance at 7 p.m. EDT, a way for all citizens to share a patriotic moment.

Are You Ready to Switch Over to Digital TV on Friday, June 12?

Currently, many over-the-air TV stations are broadcasting in both analog and digital TV formats. But on Friday, June 12th, all TV stations will begin broadcasting only in digital. Are you ready for the switch?

The DTV transition will affect those who watch free over-the air television – through a rooftop antenna or “rabbit ears.” If you watch over-the-air programs on an analog TV, you must take action now.

What can you do?
1. Connect your analog TV to a digital-to-analog converter box.
2. Buy a digital television (a TV with a built-in digital tuner).
3. Subscribe to a paid TV provider service such as cable or satellite TV.

Golf Road Construction Reminder

Metra will begin work on replacing the railroad bridge over Golf Road east of Waukegan on Monday, June 8. Once the work begins, Golf will be down to two lanes (one in each direction) until December 1, and work will take place from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily.

Little City Used Book Sale

The 2009 Little City Used Book Sale will be returning to Westfield Old Orchard from June 5 through June 14. The Book Sale is expected to draw more than 50,000 shoppers with its more than 200,000 used books in 70 subject categories. This year's selection has been expanded to include a greater selection of comic books, DVDs, CDs and vinyl records.
