Waukegan Road Resurfacing to Begin

Phase I of the Waukegan Road Construction Project (installing curb bump-outs and raised medians along the road) has been completed, and Phase II (resurfacing Waukegan Road between Golf and Willow) will begin within the next week. Work will proceed from south to north and there will be ongoing lane closures wherever the contractor is working. This means that traffic will be adversely affected; you may want to give yourself extra time if you plan to use Waukegan Road. Resurfacing should be completed by the end of September.

At that time, the Village will begin Phase III of the project: installing stamped, colored concrete pedestrian crosswalks along Waukegan at five intersections: Overlook, Dewes, Glenview, Grove, and East Lake. Please feel free to call IDOT at (773) 594-0723 or the Village's Capital Projects Department at (847) 998-9500 with questions or concerns.

19th Amendment

Ninety years ago today on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment became law when the Tennessee Legislature became the 36th state legislature to ratify the proposed amendment by a margin of one vote. Illinois was one of the first states to approve the amendment on June 10, 1919 along with Michigan and Wisconsin. That amendment states that: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex," otherwise known as the culmination of the Women's Suffrage Movement.

Ninety years ago, Women's Suffrage was controversial and many marched, protested, and were jailed for demonstrating in favor of the passage of the 19th Amendment. You may register to vote in person at the Glenview Village Hall or by mail through the Cook County Clerk's Office.
