Daylight Savings Time

This Sunday at 2:00 a.m. local time, most residents of the U.S. will turn back their clocks an hour marking the conclusion of daylight savings time. What started us on this ritual in the first place?
The Fall temporal transition is often a welcome one, given that one glorious hour of extra sleep. The hassle of resetting our clocks often leaves people wondering why? These were just a few of the reasons listed:

~Energy Use ~Retailers benefit from extra afternoon sunlight ~ Reduction in traffic fatalities ~Sunlight strongly influences Seasonal Affective Disorder.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC) is telling all consumers it's a good time to replace their smoke alarm and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm batteries.
