Garlic Mustard

It may look pretty, but garlic mustard is a nonnative invasive weed that crowds out native species. It is blooming and spreading now in our area. It is easy to identify by appearance and by the faint garlicky smell when the leaves are crushed.

You can control garlic mustard in your garden by hand-pulling the plants, including the roots, with as little disturbance to the soil as possible, since this may bring garlic mustard seeds to the surface and increase germination.

Spring Forward

Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour when you go to bed this Saturday night. Daylight Saving Time begins this year on Sunday March 11 and ends November 4. If it seems earlier than it used to be, it is. In August 2005, Congress passed an energy bill that included extending Daylight Saving Time by about a month. As of 2007, DST starts the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.
