Confused about Medicare and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)?

"Medicare isn’t part of the Health Insurance Marketplace, so you don’t need to do anything. If you have Medicare, you are considered covered.
The Marketplace won’t affect your Medicare choices, and your benefits won’t be changing. No matter how you get Medicare, whether through Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, you’ll still have the same benefits and security you have now. You won’t have to make any changes."

Expanded Medicare benefits for preventive care, drug coverage
  • Medicare benefits have expanded under the health care law–things like preventive services such as cancer screenings and an annual wellness visit.
  • You can also save money if you’re in the prescription drug “donut hole” with discounts on brand-name presciption drugs.

More Medicare details

  • Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period (October 15-December 7) hasn’t changed.
  • Remember, Marketplace insurance isn’t for people who have Medicare, so don’t drop your Medicare coverage.
  • To learn more about your Medicare coverage and choices, visit www.medicare.gov.
  • If you have family and friends who don’t have health insurance, or if they want to explore new health plan options, tell them to visit www.HealthCare.gov.

Juneteenth Event in Waukegan, Illinois

Are you thinking of a short road trip this week-end?  Are you interested in U.S. history?
Waukegan Illinois is hosting Juneteenth,  oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States
on Saturday, June 15, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at 565 Powell Avenue.Read more about Juneteenth.

June 15 is also the date for the monthly ArtWauk festival.  ArtWauk's mission is "tactical application of the arts," explicitly stating that this initiative has a greater purpose beyond the primary impact of contributing to the cultural education and artistic appreciation in our community. The goal is to continue filling vacant spaces with viable businesses that create local jobs, broaden the tax base, and improve overall quality of life in Waukegan. Artwauk runs year-round on the third Saturday of each month from 5pm to 10pm and is complete with dining opportunities and many vendors including local artists. See a map of ArtWauk.

While you are in Waukegan, don’t forget to visit the Community Garden located at 35 S. Genesee Street, to check out how it’s really shaping up after all the rain, planting and weeding. The garden is a wonderfully restful location with a gazebo, statues, and butterfly and children’s garden, that provides a great view of our beautiful lake front.
