Glenview's annual Independence Day festivities provide a colorful display of community pride and patriotism -- highlighted by the 51st annual parade and evening fireworks display.
The parade steps off at 11:15 a.m. with the children's bike parade from the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Glenview Road, travels south on Harlem and turns west onto Central Road, ending at Johns Park. This year's parade marshal is Mark Walther, who recently retired after 25 years as District 34's Hoffman School principal and 15 years as co-chair of Character Counts! in Glenview.
This year's Twilight Concert and Fireworks Show will be held at Gallery Park. Click here for maps and information about parking and street closures. The North Shore Concert Band begins at 7 p.m., followed by the fireworks at dusk.
Starting next week, you can watch the parade on GVTV, cable channel 6 or 17 (depending on your neighborhood) and AT&T U-verse channel 99 PEG. Check the program schedule for times.
Please note that the Glenview Public Library will be closed on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4 for the holiday. Village Hall and all Village offices will be closed Monday, July 4.
